1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing and using CampusMarket DUT ("the Platform"), you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service.
If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Platform.
CampusMarket DUT is a student-to-student marketplace exclusively for Durban University of Technology (DUT) students.
The Platform facilitates connections between buyers and sellers but is not a party to any transactions.
2. Eligibility
You must meet the following requirements to use CampusMarket DUT:
- Be a currently enrolled student at Durban University of Technology
- Be at least 18 years old
- Provide accurate and truthful information in your listings
- Have a valid phone number for communication
We reserve the right to verify student status by requesting a DUT student ID.
Failure to provide verification when requested may result in listing removal or account suspension.
3. User Responsibilities
As a Seller, you agree to:
- Provide accurate descriptions, photos, and pricing for all items
- Only list items you legally own and have the right to sell
- Respond to buyer inquiries within 24 hours
- Meet buyers at safe, public campus locations
- Mark items as "sold" promptly after completing a transaction
- Remove listings that are no longer available
As a Buyer, you agree to:
- Inspect items thoroughly before purchasing
- Communicate respectfully with sellers
- Honor commitments made to purchase items
- Meet sellers at safe, public campus locations
- Not engage in payment before seeing the item in person
4. Prohibited Items and Conduct
The following are strictly prohibited on CampusMarket DUT:
Prohibited Items:
- Weapons, firearms, explosives, or dangerous materials
- Illegal drugs or controlled substances
- Stolen goods or counterfeit products
- Academic dishonesty materials (exam answers, plagiarized work, etc.)
- Alcohol or tobacco products
- Adult content or services
- Live animals (except with proper documentation)
- Items that violate DUT policies or South African law
Prohibited Conduct:
- Harassment, threats, or abusive language
- Fraudulent or deceptive practices
- Spamming or posting duplicate listings
- Impersonating other users or DUT staff
- Attempting to circumvent platform security
- Collecting user data for unauthorized purposes
Violations may result in immediate listing removal, account suspension, or reporting to DUT authorities.
5. Safety Guidelines
Your safety is your responsibility. CampusMarket DUT provides the platform but cannot guarantee the safety of in-person transactions.
Recommended Safety Practices:
- Meet in public campus areas: Libraries, cafeterias, main courtyards
- Bring a friend: Especially for high-value transactions
- Inspect before paying: Never pay without seeing and testing the item
- Trust your instincts: If something feels wrong, walk away
- Use cash or verified payment methods: Avoid wire transfers to unknown parties
- Verify student status: Ask to see a DUT student ID
- Report suspicious activity: Contact campus security if needed
6. Platform Disclaimer
IMPORTANT: CampusMarket DUT is a platform that connects students.
We are NOT a party to any transactions and do NOT guarantee the quality, safety, or legality of items listed.
CampusMarket DUT:
- Does not verify the accuracy of listings
- Does not inspect items before they are listed
- Does not handle payments or deliveries
- Does not guarantee that sellers will fulfill commitments
- Does not guarantee that items are as described
- Is not liable for disputes between buyers and sellers
Use of the Platform is entirely at your own risk.
We strongly recommend exercising caution, meeting in safe locations, and verifying items before payment.
7. Listing Verification and Moderation
All listings are subject to review before being published. We reserve the right to:
- Reject listings that violate these Terms
- Request student ID verification from sellers
- Remove listings at our discretion
- Suspend or ban users who violate platform rules
- Report illegal activity to DUT authorities or law enforcement
Approval of a listing does not constitute an endorsement or guarantee of the item's quality or legality.
8. Intellectual Property
By posting content (photos, descriptions, etc.) on CampusMarket DUT, you grant us a non-exclusive,
royalty-free license to display that content on the Platform. You retain ownership of your content.
You represent that you have the right to post all content you upload and that it does not violate
any third-party rights or South African copyright law.
9. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:
CampusMarket DUT and its operators shall NOT be liable for:
- Any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
- Loss of profits, data, or business opportunities
- Personal injury or property damage resulting from platform use
- Fraudulent transactions or misrepresented items
- Disputes between buyers and sellers
- Unavailability or interruption of the Platform
You acknowledge that all transactions are conducted at your own risk and that CampusMarket DUT
is merely a facilitator, not a participant.
10. Dispute Resolution
In the event of a dispute with another user:
- Attempt to resolve the matter directly with the other party
- CampusMarket DUT is not obligated to mediate or resolve disputes
- You release CampusMarket DUT from any claims arising from user disputes
- Serious disputes should be reported to DUT campus security or local authorities
11. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to CampusMarket DUT at any time,
with or without notice, for any reason, including but not limited to:
- Violation of these Terms of Service
- Fraudulent or deceptive behavior
- Multiple user complaints
- Graduation or withdrawal from DUT
12. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms of Service at any time. Continued use of the Platform after changes
constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. Material changes will be communicated via the Platform.
13. Governing Law
These Terms of Service are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa.
Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of KwaZulu-Natal.
